UPSC Civil Services / OTR Requirements

  • Photo: Passport size (3.5cm x 4.5cm). The face should occupy 3/4th of the space. Clear background.
  • Date/Name: Ensure your photo has the Date of Photo taken if specifically requested by the notification (e.g. CSE).
  • Signature: 3.5cm x 1.5cm. Signed in Black Ink on White Paper.
  • Format: JPEG/JPG only. PDF is not allowed for photo/sign.

Pre-Upload Checklist

  • No Blur: UPSC rejects blurry images instantly. Ensure the source is sharp.
  • File Size: Must be greater than 20KB. Our tool prevents resizing below this threshold.
  • Legibility: Signature must be clearly visible. Use the "Contrast" slider to darken ink.

UPSC Photo & Signature Resizer

Engineered for UPSC One Time Registration (OTR) and Civil Services applications. This utility resolves "Invalid Dimensions" errors by autonomously handling 350x450 pixel mapping and precise 20KB - 300KB compression constraints.

Precision & Shortcuts

  • Smart Dimension Fixing: Standardizes your photo to exactly 350x450 pixels and signature to 350x150 pixels, ensuring strict adherence to the 3.5cm:4.5cm aspect ratio required by the commission.
  • Size Guard Algorithm: Unlike generic compressors, we ensure the file never drops below 20KB (a common reason for rejection) while staying under the 300KB limit.
  • Signature High-Contrast Filter: Signatures often suffer from poor lighting. Use the "Contrast" slider to perform digital thresholding, making the black ink stand out against a whitened background.
  • Privacy First: All processing occurs within your browser's local sandbox. Your photos and signatures never leave your device.

Common UPSC Rejection Reasons

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) uses automated algorithms to check uploaded images. The most frequent errors are "Image too small" (less than 20KB) or "Invalid Aspect Ratio". A signature that is square (1:1) instead of rectangular (approx 2:1 or 3:1) will be rejected.

The Pixel vs Centimeter Confusion

While the notification specifies centimeters (3.5cm x 4.5cm), digital systems read pixels. At standard screen density, a 350px x 450px image perfectly maps to this aspect ratio while maintaining sufficient clarity for the Admit Card. Our tool forces this pixel grid to ensure 100% compatibility.

Signature Clarity

A signature signed with a Blue pen or on a shadowy background is often rejected. UPSC strictly advises Black Ink on white paper. Use our filter tools to desaturate (remove color) and boost contrast if you used a blue pen.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Does this tool add the Name and Date to the photo?

No. This tool is for resizing and cropping. If your exam notification requires the Name and Date on the photo, please ensure it is printed on the photo before uploading it here for resizing.

My signature looks too small, what should I do?

Use the "Crop" step to zoom in closely on your signature. Remove as much white space as possible from the edges. Then, the tool will resize it to the correct 350x150 dimensions.

Why is the file size limit 20KB minimum?

UPSC servers reject files smaller than 20KB to ensure the image has enough detail to be legible on the exam hall ticket.
